A nice day for a nice cause

The Nanuet Lions club were enjoying the weather, but also working hard to raise money for their charities.

Labor Day Weekend brought great weather and many people outside. The dedicated members of the Nanuet Lions Club took advantage of this opportunity to raise money for their many charities in front of Petsmart in Nanuet as part of their Red, White and Blue weekend.

One of the charities they were raising money for were for vision charities that work with the visually impaired.

Another cause is the Manny Lopez fund. Lopez was the first causality from Rockland County in 2005 and is one of four soldiers from Rockland that have been killed in Iraq/Afghanistan. A bronze memorial statue will be built in their honor in Haverstraw.

The Nanuet Lions Club pledged to raise $2000 of the $6000 needed for this statue. Barbara Chuck, president, said several rotaries and local people are also helping to raise the rest of the money.

Everyone that donates gets a free craft handmade by the club, such as a potholder, magnet, pin or keychain.
