Clarkstown Police Officers To Shave for St. Baldrick's

Clarkstown PBA has raised $9,072 of its $10,000 goal.

Get ready to see some bald police officers. Clarkstown Detective John Fredericks is organizing a team of about 20 people for the Clarkstown PBA team for St. Baldrick's Day this Sunday, Mar. 11 at Dominican College.

Made up of Clarkstown police officers and their family members, the team is excited to participate in an event that raises funds for cancer research and support for kids with cancer. Each participant raises funds to shave his/her hair in support of those kids with cancer who do not have a choice but to have their heads shaved and loss of hair from treatment.

“This is my fourth year and as (a team) Clarkstown PBA, it’s our third year,” said Fredericks. “We decided to pool our efforts and raise money for St. Baldrick's. Everyone knows someone that has been affected by cancer.”

For Fredericks, his mother-in-law had cancer.

“The good part about our team is that it’s not just police officers, but their families are participating too,” he said. “Some daughters are doing Locks of Love. I have my son doing it. He’s nine and my father  is getting his head shaved for the first time since being in the Korean War. He’s watched me and he wants to join.”

Clarkstown PBA has raised $9,072 of its $10,000 goal. Those wanting to sponsor can do so at the team's donation page.

“This is a unique event because the money that’s raised is directed toward kids with cancer. It hits home because almost everyone has kids,” said Fredericks. “It’s tough when it’s anyone of any age, but when it’s a child, it’s really hard.”

Here are some ways you can help:

  • You could join them on stage and have your head shaved to help show kids that not having hair is not a big deal (free lunch at Baileys after for shavees.)
  • You could come and help at the event, free t-shirt to volunteers and a lot of fun.
  • You could donate to them or anyone else at events all over the country (there are more than 1,000 events going on this year.)
