Friday: Girl Scout Tricky Tray Fundraiser

Doors open at 6 p.m. at Felix Festa Middle School. This fundraiser will go toward Troop 40165's Gold Award

The Gold Award is the highest honor a girl scout can earn and for a girl scout troop from Clarkstown South High School, they're in the final stretch.

"(The Gold Award) It’s a milestone to reach and an honor to achieve and only comes after years of hard work, dedication and community service," said Troop Leader Robin Korines. "We are very proud that the six wonderful girls of Troop 40165 are only months away from being honored with this award."

The final requirement for the Gold Award is an Individual Community Service project. To fund these projects, the girls are fundraising with a Tricky Tray event.

"They are all very excited and have worked hard to prepare over 200 baskets filled with an assortment of wonderful things," said Korines. "These young women represent our future and it is my sincere wish that as many members  of our community as possible will come out and support them while enjoying an evening of fun. If you have never been to a Tricky Tray come and experience it, we guarantee you won’t be disappointed.”

Items being raffled off include a flat screen TV, a Kindle Fire, Coach accessories, Swarovski, Pandora, Sporting Events, Camps, Variety of Services by local Professionals (Doctors, Dentists), massages, Restaurants, Comedy Clubs, Aquariums and many more.

“It feels good to make a difference in people’s lives and we are all looking forward to achieving that in our own unique way," said Troop 40165.

One of the girls will be working with a local assisted living facility to donate computers so she can teach the residence how to enhance their use of social media. Two of the girls' projects will be directly working with underprivileged children, one with providing tennis equipment and lessons and the other by doing some healthy cooking demonstrations and classes.  Another girl has chosen to work with young adults attending ESL (English as a Second Language) classes.

“It has been such a joy to work with these girls for the last 11 years," said Korines. "They have grown into such amazing young women who are committed and focused on reaching a goal that very few actually achieve."
