Correction: This fundraiser is for Hi-Tor's operational costs, not the Rebuild Effort.
Come September 8, revelers stopping in and out of Nyack's downtown bars will have one trait in common—a love for animals.
Nyack's Main Street will play host to 's pub crawl fundraiser—the first of its kind—Saturday, Sept. 8 from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. Participants are asked to donate $25 to the cause, which earns a t-shirt and raffle entry.
The idea came from Nyacker Marc Pritsky, who pitched it to Hi-Tor. All funds raised will go toward the operational costs of the shelter.
"I subscribe to several animal shelter websites, and someone in California had done something similar," Pritsky said. "The [Nyack] community has been really supportive."
The afternoon will include drink specials, food discounts and cheap cab fares.
About 30 businesses have pitched in, Prisky said, with bars like Bourbon Street, and donating space and time. Nearby eateries—like , and —have contributed gift certificates to the raffle.
Pritsky had to put his dog down about one year ago, but has since adopted a new friend from a shelter in South Carolina.
"It hits home when you drive to a shelter and all the dogs have a 'take me' look on their faces," Pritsky said.
