Community Corner

Many Wined & Dined at 16th Annual Taste of Rockland

This annual event benefits the ARC of Rockland

The ARC of Rockland held their 16th annual A Taste of Rockland benefit event at the Pearl River Hilton Monday evening. This year, a record 55 restaurants, dessert and beverage companies were represented and well over 400 guests were in attendance.

“This year is the biggest turnout we have ever had,” said Executive Director Karyl Caplan. “It shows tremendous community support and that people really understand the need that is there. There are beverage restaurants, wineries, breweries and bakeries here tonight and the have all donated their time and efforts. It’s really incredible.”

A Taste of Rockland has become a well know event over the past 16 years. The mixing of a charitable event with an outstanding evening of dinner from some of the best restaurants in the area has been a huge success and has many members of the Rockland community coming back each year.

“I’ve been coming here for years and it has just grown each year,” said Senator David Carlucci. “It’s a win-win. ARC provides such great services for people with developmental disabilities and also it showcases the best restaurants in Rockland County. It’s really a who’s who of restaurants in the area.”

ARC, based in Congers and with a staff of 650, provides supports and services to more than 1,200 people with intellectual and other developmental disabilities from infancy through the senior years. ARC is also a resource for information and referral about support and services.

"What I like about the Taste is the sense of community, the camaraderie and the purpose of our being there. I feel like I am contributing—doing something good for my community," said Jim Guarasci, owner of Jimmy's on Main in Nanuet. "It’s a great, great event. I'm very excited about it."
