Nam Knights Gift 4,000 Pounds of Food, $1,500 to Food Pantry

People to People benefited from a food drive held by the Hudson Valley Chapter of the Nam Knights of America

Given the current economy, many are finding themselves unemployed. , Rockland’s largest food pantry, has seen an increased number of families in the county at their doorstep.

“From January to July, 2011, we provided monthly food packages to 7,456 Rockland families,” said Diane Serratore, People to People executive director. “This year, the number of families served from January to July was 7,630. The numbers of people who need help to feed their families continues to grow."

Fortunately, they've gotten some recent generous donations, such as one from a and another from the Hudson Valley Chapter of the Nam Knights of America. The Nam Knights gave nearly 4,000 pounds of food and a check for $1,500 after a successful food drive.

“We don’t strive for attention or accolades, but we are committed to making a difference in our community," said George Raboni, Treasurer, Nam Knights of America, Hudson Valley Chapter. "Our association with the wonderful People to People organization is one of our proudest commitments. But we could not achieve our worthy goals without the support of a generous community. We are only a conduit for those who want to be part of the solution."

“We greatly appreciate the efforts and generosity of the Nam Knights and all those who came out and donated to their food drive on our behalf,” said Joe Allen, President of the People to People Board of Directors. “Thanks to the selflessness of all those who donated and the Nam Knights, People to People will be able to serve the hungry in our community. It is heart-warming to know that others support our efforts and hard work on behalf of struggling Rocklanders, and are willing to step up and be a part of the solution.”

As Rockland County’s largest food pantry, People to People provides food and other essential services to families and seniors in need. People to People also collects and distributes coats, clothing, computers, school supplies and holiday gifts.
