Nanuet High School Green Council Cleans Up School

The group was participating in the Great American Cleanup

Seven Nanuet High School students took to the woods outside of the school on Tuesday to pick up garbage spread around the campus.

The students, all members of the Nanuet High School Green Council, were taking part in the Great American Cleanup, a national effort to improve communities throughout the country. Locally, the event is sponsored by Keep Rockland Beautiful.

“We’re a group of students who try to make Nanuet High School a greener place,” said council supervisor Charles Barone.

Barone added that this was the first year the group participated in the cleanup, and the first time they cleaned up the area around the school. While picking up garbage, Barone questioned the group on the possible dangers of leaving the garbage outside.

Plenty of other organizations will hold their own Great American Cleanup events in the next few weeks and are still looking for volunteers. For more information about the cleanup, including a schedule of when others are picking up garbage, click here.
