The Nanuet Rotary announced that they were able to raise $10,000 from their Oct. 15 Beatles concert featuring Beatles tribute band Ob-La-Di, Bla-Da. Many of the Beatles' popular songs were performed with a light show. There were also refreshments and raffles.
"I think we set a record. This is our most successful fundraiser we've ever done at Nanuet Rotary that anyone can remember," said Rotary President Jim Damiani. "Many thanks to the generosity of the Nanuet community." Almost everything at the concert was donated by local businesses such as the printing of the posters and programs by Harrington Press in Nyack.
At the last Board of Education meeting Nov. 1, Damiani and Rotarian Donna Lennane presented a plaque to the school district on behalf of the Nanuet Rotary.
"The plaque was offered as a token of appreciation for the school district allowing the Rotary Club to use the high school auditorium for its recent concert fundraiser," said Lennane. "We couldn't have done it without your support. We are happy that your generosity in allowing us to use the school district facility resulted in our club netting $10,000 which will come back to the students of the Nanuet schools and our community."
"We felt we should acknowledge the school for their help because without them providing us with the venue, we would've had a very hard time accommodating the concert," said Damiani.
"The funds will be allocated mostly to our Rotary scholarship fund and some will go to our other charities," said Damiani. The other charities include Polio Plus—a worldwide effort to eradicate Polio, the Salvation Army's Canteen Project and the Haverstraw memorial for the four fallen Rockland County soldiers that were serving in Iraq or Afghanistan.
