Pearl River Father-Son Team Have Fundraising Lead For St. Baldrick’s

They're just $1 away from reaching a cumulative goal of $10,000

Ray Neubauer has raised the most money individually for St. Baldrick's Day, which is this Sunday, Mar. 11 at Dominican College. He's participating with his son, Gavin. The Neubauers are Pearl River born and raised.

This is an event that raises funds for cancer research and support for kids with cancer. Each participant raises funds to shave his/her hair in support of those kids with cancer who do not have a choice but to have their heads shaved and loss of hair from treatment.

Their team name uses their initials and plays on the theme of Guns and Roses: Team G-n-R. Neubauer has raised the most amount of funds, individually, for the upcoming St. Baldrick’s Day.

“Individually, I’m in the lead. I (participated) two years ago and raised $5,000 and change,” said Neubauer, adding that he skipped a year and is returning this year. “Our goal is to reach $10,000 cumulative. (Gavin) He’s raised $701. His sister donated $16 to him to make up the difference.”

Neubauer hopes to raise $4,876 this year to reach $10,001 and he’s only $1 away from his goal. Visit their team donation page to sponsor them.

“We picked a girl to honor, Sophia Williams, who shares the same birthday as my daughter. I felt connected to her,” he said. “We’re really excited. This is only my second year. It’s just my son and I this year. He’s two and a half years old. He sees the pictures (of what happens on St. Baldrick’s Day) and likes haircuts.”

Neubauer got involved because his contractor was participating in a team and Neubauer sponsored their team.

“I met parents there that have kids with cancer,” he said. “Just from having kids, I can’t imagine going through something like that.”

Although cancer is not a happy topic, Neubauer tries to think positive.

“We always try to make it fun so we have team t-shirts this year,” he said. “Team G-n-R, for Gavin and Ray, like Guns and Roses. We’re going to celebrate after with the family.”

Here are some ways you can help:

  • You could join them on stage and have your head shaved to help show kids that not having hair is not a big deal (free lunch at Baileys after for shavees.)
  • You could come and help at the event, free t-shirt to volunteers and a lot of fun.
  • You could donate to them or anyone else at events all over the country (there are more than 1,000 events going on this year.)

The following donors are supporting the GnR (Gavin N Ray):

Donation of $1.00 - $499.00
