Rockland Rolls up its Sleeves Ready for Great American Clean Up

The supply-pick up was yesterday, Monday

To keep the streets, streams and parks of Rockland County clean, Keep Rockland Beautiful (KRB) has an annual Great American Clean Up completely fueled by volunteers.

For most of Monday, volunteers were coming and going to BOCES in West Nyack picking up supplies such as litter-grabbers, trash bags and KRB t-shirts.

On the bright green t-shirts is the winning drawing from 14-year-old Serena Yanitelli. Rockland students could submit drawings for the t-shirt contest and Yanitelli's came out on top.

"I just wanted to make people aware and keep their home beautiful," she said. "My mom and a few other people told me about the contest. When I got the call, I was very excited (that I won)."

"I'm very proud of her. She knows what she's talking about," said Emily DelPrincipio, Serena's grandmother. "She's very into the community and is very helpful." Yanitelli attends Fieldstone Secondary School and she's cleaning up a stream in Stony Point with her girl scout troop this Saturday, April 9.
