Rotary Pancake Breakfast: Seeking Sponsors, Donations

The pancake breakfast is Oct. 24

The smell of pancakes is a good and familiar feeling. So is the feeling of doing something selfless for someone else. Add the two together and you get the Clarkstown Sunrise Rotary's Pancake Breakfast Fundraiser.

Both the Clarkstown South High School and the Clarkstown South High School Rotary Interact Club are helping out with this event, which is set for 8 a.m. - noon, Oct. 24 at South HS' cafeteria.

"Everybody's been preparing and we've got a lot of things accomplished," said Rotary President Mitchell Kahn. "We need a lot of donations for the pancake breakfast." Although it's a few weeks away and they've already started working on the event, the Rotary is looking for some help from the community.

One of the features during this breakfast are raffles and prize baskets. These prize baskets each come with a different theme and the Rotary is looking for donations for these baskets.

Rotary Secretary John Wall said that the baskets can have any theme and he listed off a few as examples: gift certificates, wine, sports, massage, toys, canned food, restaurant gift certificates, pasta, etc ... He added that this is a great way for businesses to showcase what they've got and is worth it because they usually get a new customer out of it.

This breakfast will support local students because the proceeds go toward the Clarkstown South High School PTSA scholarships and the Clarkstown Sunrise Rotary Scholarship Fund. There will be different kinds of pancakes, sausage links and dry cereal.

The organizations planning this event are also looking for sponsors: either $150 or $250 sponsor would be very helpful, said Kahn. "All sponsors will have a poster made with their business on it at the breakfast; they will be professionally made."

"We've always had a good turn out depending on the weather," said Rotarian Jerry Fox, who is organizing a Hospice Walkathon the same morning on the track at South HS.

Principal Jim Vitale of South HS also added that the event has been successful in past years.

"Last year we grossed $3,200," he said. Vitale and everyone involved are excited that this event will go toward helping students.
