Tomorrow: Raising Money For Haiti's Smallest Victims

Dr. Robert Gregory will be at DeCicco Supermarket from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Sunday in New City

Last year’s earthquake was a truly devastating event. It shattered lives and brought an already poor nation to its knees. In the immediate aftermath of the quake, there was an outpouring of support and philanthropic activity. Those activities continue to stay strong to this day as one local resident makes it his duty to ensure that money is collected for Haiti’s smallest victims.

Area resident Dr. Robert Gregory is on a mission to make sure that the suffering in Haiti is not forgotten. In particular, Gregory has been raising money for Hope Village, an orphanage, by giving out Easter magnets.

“I give away my Easter car magnets and accept donations for Hope Village in Haiti,” said Gregory. “Every cent that people give us—no deductions, I donate the magnets—goes to the orphanage. Free the Kids (and) Hope Village, they have a 95 percent rating of donations used directly.”

To date, he has been able to raise over $53,000 for the orphans.

Last Saturday, Gregory, along with a cohort of eager students from Albertus Magnus, was at Rockland Bakery, where they received $866 in donations.

“We gave out my Easter magnets and received donations,” said Gregory. “I was helped by about 16 students from Albertus. Every penny that we received goes directly to the orphans. There is no charge for the magnets and there are no middlemen.”

Gregory will be once again handing out magnets and looking donations this weekend. If you are interested in supporting the very worthy cause he works so hard for, he will be at DeCicco Supermarket located at 180 S. Main Street in New City this Sunday, April 17 from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.
