"We Serve:" Nanuet Lions Celebrate 52 Years

They celebrated 52 years of service to the people

The ceremony opened with the Lions’ Prayer and Toast, and then moved into the guests speakers. The first speakers were the Daryl Hutchinson of Affinity Health Plan and Ayal Linderman of HANA and a first responder for FEMA.

“It was a fantastic night. It was so worth it,” said Barbara Chuck, Nanuet Lions President. “It was a great turn out too.”

Scott Vanderhoef, the county executive and Alex Gromack, Clarkstown Town Supervisor recognized and gave awards to special Lions for exemplary service and dedication to their goal and living up to their slogan, which is simply “We Serve”:

As the ceremony continued, Ralph, an earthquake survivor, told his story of how he was caught in the earthquake while he was at school. He was trapped there for about two days lying on his stomach. While he was trapped under the school, he dreamed that he saw his father who was there to take him to heaven. When, in reality, it was the young man’s father who found him under all the rubble.

Unfortunately, due to his injuries, the young man lost his left leg. However, he never lost the spirit that kept him alive. And now, he and his father have moved to the United States.

After the guest speakers, Jamieson came up to talk about his own experiences when he was in Haiti and his experiences helping the people here in the United States who were caught in the tornadoes. After recalling his endeavors, he only had one thing to say, “I’d do it all again.”
