Monday, Jan. 27

Rockland Community College begins its celebration of African American history by opening an archival photo exhibit of the Harlem Renaissance on the second floor of the Technology Center. Find out more here

Tuesday, Jan. 28

The Rockland County Legislature’s Public Safety Committee meets at 5:15 p.m., Multi Services Committee at 6 p.m., Planning & Public Works Committee at 7 p.m. and the Budget & Finance Committee at 7:45 p.m.  The legislative meetings are held at 11 New Hempstead Road in New City and are open to the public. There will be a fundraising Italian cooking class run by chef John Carollo at Del Arte's Restaurant in Orangeburg 6:30 p.m. Tuesday. Proceeds from the $55 per participant will go to the Lourdes Kids of Rockland, which will send special needs children on a pilgrimage to the Our Lady of Lourdes Shrine in France. Find out more here.

Wednesday, Jan. 29

St. Anthony School at 34 West Nyack Road in Nanuet invites families interested in a Catholic preschool or elementary education to tour.  Open house visits begin at 9 a.m.  To register or get more details, go here.

Barnes & Noble on the fourth floor of Palisades Center Mall in West Nyack will share What's Your Favorite Animal? The book of illustrations and personal stories by Eric Carle and also features 13 other children's book artists talking about their favorite animals and why they love them. This is a free reading of the book along with other activities for children. Read more here

Thursday, Jan. 30

Albertus Magnus High School at 798 Route 304 in Bardonia is holding a Day of Prayer to end human trafficking.  The Day of Prayer is timed to precede Super Bowl XLVIII, which is an event that attracts human traffickers. Albertus Magnus is striving to raise awareness of this issue among students, faculty, staff and Rockland area residents. All are invited to join the Albertus Magnus community in prayer by visiting the school chapel or one's own place of worship to remember these victims in private prayer. Find details here.
