All 11 states in this "compact" were the same political color in 2012, leading me toRead More believe that it's a partisan attempt to shape the nation in that party's image more so than something inherently needed or beneficial to the nation as a whole.

Most people aren't aware that there were other considerations that the framers/f.fathers used whenRead More they decided on the electoral college. One, of course, was the problem of state to state population differences, another was "voter qualification". Of the 300 million Americans, lets say there are 200 plus mil. that can legally vote, by age and status of citizenry. Now, of that population amount, how many actually "qualify" to vote? By that I mean, politically savvy, world-wise, law-abiding citizenry?? Have any of you seen the youtube video of the Obama cellphone lady yet??? If not, stop reading this and point your mouse at the browser bar and beat a path to youtube,,, you will see why the framers wanted land owners, or,, intelligent, successful, decent citizens to vote, NOT everyone! Last point,, here's man analogy for you. When you get on a jet plane, where do you sit? You MUST sit with all the other passengers, NOT in the control cabin!!! So, of a plane full of maybe 200 or more passengers,,, how many RUN THE PLANE????? ONLY 3!!! THE PILOT, CO-PILOT, AND FLIGHT ENGINEER!!!!! Do I have to go any further??? The same holds true with the very very serious matter of electing our leader, because for 4, or maybe 8 years,,, we will have to see morals, finances, war, culture, and media quality either go up,,, or,,,,, down!!! Ask yourselves,, for the past 20 odd years which party had a "party" with morals, the crime rate, the horrible types of crimes, the preteen pregnancy rate, which is 90% of black females by the way ( oh that is horrendous!), and financial meltdowns? Yes!!! You got it!!! The damocrats!!! Fact! * years of Clinton, and 4 years of O-BOY-ma,, with another 3 more years to go (oi vey, oi gevalt!!!)!!! We are about to be swindled again with the hijacking libs and their side-kicks, the lame stream media!

Due to the rise cases of HIV number, more awareness of HIV/AIDS is needed. One of my doctor friendsRead More who works on a largest online HIV dating site hivlover.com said more than 300 new users join in this site everyday. But not all types of STDs increased. Rates of syphilis, AIDS and HIV all decreased slightly. But more reports of gonorrhea and chlamydia were recorded by the Health Department.

Charles, thanks for catching that - I meant to put a link to the full press release, which givesRead More details of his background, in the article. "Monel brings over a decade of economic development, business management and marketingRead More experience to the new position. He most recently served as an IT Business Specialist at Clear Channel in White Plains. Prior to his time at Clear Channel, he worked at Lascomp Institute of IT (LIIT) in Montvale, New Jersey, where he was responsible for developing, coordinating and implementing marketing plans designed to maintain and increase existing business and capture new opportunities. He also reviewed and submitted RFP's and worked closely with private sector and government purchasing departments." Thanks, he appears well qualified with a diverse background and most important no political baggage. That us what taxpayers come to expect from Ed Day.,

How is this a "slap in the face?" The village hall is a house.. the police dept worksRead More in the attic. If the state wants the land, perhaps the village can be compensated with another building that is more appropriate to their mission. I had heard that the village had once looked at the old telephone company building further north on Broadway, and there was a proposal to build something on the old ice house property too. If they are going to have a walkway or bike lane on the bridge, parking would be needed somewhere close.. (the old ice house property would be ok too.. right by the Esposito rail trail). Bottom line, this could actually benefit the people of South Nyack as they get a better facility. I agree however that the thruway authority does not care about either side of the river.. they never have... And just wait til Andy Boy Jr, names the bridge after his father.
willie 6 March 22, 2014 at 04:35 pm
ITK. my point is EMINENT DOMAIN can take anything and everything including YOUR HOUSE ! who wants toRead More look at a parking lot. let them use the land around the cloverleaf.
Dennis March 24, 2014 at 06:35 am
South Nyack should take this opportunity to seriously consider this proposal to modernize it'sRead More facilities!
bibliophile March 23, 2014 at 06:24 pm
Let's stop with the euphemisms. ILLEGAL, not "undocumented" is what should be used allRead More the time. Every time this country give out "amnesty" to millions of ILLEGALS, more come illegally and those who wait on line to request entry legally get screwed. I have family living in other countries who would admit them legally since the quota for Europeans had been met here. So, pardon me if I have no sympathy. How about a Dream Act to cut tuition rates for those legally living here and who are burdened with loans, but persevere to get a degree. It took me ten years to pay off my students loans, but I did it to get a BA, MA and a MS!
New York Patriot March 23, 2014 at 07:03 pm
Perhaps after the mid-term elections there will me a Nightmare Act brought for a vote in the thenRead More Republican Senate and Congress. This Nightmare Act will strengthen (no, fortify) our porous borders and begin a massive program of deportation of individuals (and their offspring) who have entered OUR home illegally.

What upsets me is that 29 voted for this dumb idea. As someone above mentioned, why don't allRead More those who just love handing out money to those who are not legal citizens or who have committed crimes just hand over whatever personal amounts they have? This would make the generous libs happy and the rest of us could just support our own favorite charities, too, including the one that begins at home.

Patrick, that's really dumb. Dan, the CBS article cited does not mention cameras spying onRead More passengers, despite the way this Patch article is written. As I understand it, there will be a camera facing outward, recording in the direction the train is moving, and one facing inward, recording the engineer, possibly just their hands. I've heard nothing about cameras in the passenger areas.

License taken away, can't get to work. No income, so can't pay past due taxes. This is illogical.Read More Have these non-payers do community service or something, but to take their DL helps no one. Off Topic: A friend got a speeding ticket and went to court with him. He had to pay a fine and surcharge to NYS. There was another guy who got caught driving without a license or insurance. Second time. He got fined. This guy left court, got in a car and drove away. His car should have been confiscated.
pauline schneider March 21, 2014 at 11:30 am
I wonder if they can't pay because we are still in an economic depression? In a society that reliesRead More on cars, not sidewalks, taking away their ability to commute to a job is tantamount to throwing them into pauper's prison. why not just throw them in jail and be done? It's the same thing.
R Rice March 31, 2014 at 09:30 am
I was just thinking it was a crime to not pay your taxes. So, I guess the whole commit a crime, goRead More to jail thing is out the window. Now we're just suspending their driving privileges? Good to know...

Edward Day remember that name. He is a relentless leader. His leadership skills will help putRead More Rockland County back on track. David Carliucci is another young man with extraordinary leadership skills. Be patient.
Mike Hirsch March 22, 2014 at 10:31 am
Michael, Ed Day is a leader first and a politician second. Though I like David Carlucci, he is aRead More politician, period. He is no leader. Take a look at what is being done to try and rescind the EDC grant for the slaughterhouse. Ed Day will do all that he can to block it at the county level. Assemblyman Zebrowski has been working to get the grant rescinded at the state level for 5 years, but he is working alone. Though Senator Carlucci is opposed to this project, he has not joined him in this effort because it is difficult for him politically. That is not leadership. If he would get actively involved with Asseblyman Zebrowski, rather than just giving lip service, they would together be able to get the grant rescinded.
