The Nanuet Union Free School District is a public school system in the town of Clarkstown. The central administrativeMore offices are in Nanuet Senior High School. The district includes  G. W. Miller Elementary School, Highview Elementary School, A. MacArthur Barr Middle School and Nanuet Senior High School. As of October 2010, the total enrollment for the district is 2341 students with the following breakdowns by school: Miller 513; Highview 349; Barr 741; Nanuet HS 696. The school district's graduation rate is about 95 percent percent, well above the statewide average graduation rate of 76 percent.</p> <p>Mark McNeill is the superintendent of schools. The district's office of student support services develops programs and services for students with disabilities and educational needs. All schools are handicap accessable. The district also has a free universal pre-K program for 4-year-olds.</p> <p>The district dates back to 1812 and Nanuet as a district began around 1949. The secondary school opened in 1959 with the first graduating class in 1961.</p>

With more than 150,000 volumes, the Nanuet Public Library also offers events and programs such as cooking, yoga andMore mahjongg. The library loans out museum passes, offers online reference/research databases, downloadable eBooks/eMusic/eVideos, a career center, homebound delivery and best sellers club. Children and teen services include homework help, activities, games and community service.</p> <p>During the summer, the library hosts the Friday Film Series, which features Oscar-nominated movies such as "Avatar" and "The Blind Side," along with refreshments. Patrons are limited to one hour per day; after that hour, if no one is waiting, the user can extend to another full hour in 15-minute increments.</p> <p>The library was first housed in the original Nanuet Public School in 1839. The Nanuet Public Library was officially created in 1894 when New York State granted a provisional charter followed by the permanent charter in 1904. After a few moves and another amended charter, the library settled in its present location in 1962.
