Greater Nanuet Chamber of Commerce Selects New Board and Sets Goals for the Coming Year

ROCKLAND (June 17) – The Greater Nanuet Chamber of Commerce held their annual meeting on June 11th at the Nanuet Restaurant and welcomed several new members. They also elected five new individuals to the board and selected a new Executive Board.

During their first year the Chamber was very active. Among their accomplishments detailed below they were able to sign up more than 70 members including 19 Business Founding Members and 14 Resident Founding Members.

 

Chronology:

March – June 2012 – meetings held to gauge interest in starting a Chamber

July 2012 -- the Greater Nanuet Chamber of Commerce was formed with a founding board

August 2012 – Board established By-Laws and Mission Statement and filed with NYS for 501c4 status

September 2012 – the Chamber developed a logo and a website and formed committees; Business Empowerment/Programming; Beautification, Government Affairs, Restaurant/Retail and Long Range Planning

October 2012 - Chamber participated in “Make A Difference Rockland” event at the Nanuet High School

November 2012 - Chamber hosted Kickoff Event with an outstanding turn out

December 2012 - Chamber held its first Holiday Party preceded by well attended planning and committee meetings which established the goals for the coming months and years

January 2013 - Beautification Committee met with the Town of Clarkstown Planning Board and other Officials to discuss Economic Development Plans and how the Chamber‘s vision can help with the revitalization of Main Street; this meeting also inspired the newly formed sub-committee known as Main Street Revitalization

February 2013 - Chamber held a Tappan Zee Bridge update meeting with representatives of the Tappan Zee Constructors to discuss progress and answer questions and concerns

February 2013 -- Chamber held an Urban Planning Meeting at the Nanuet Library to bring attention to the zoning changes that would be proposed by the Town of Clarkstown; guest speakers were Councilwoman Stephanie Hausner and Town Planner Joe Simoes 

March 2013 - Chamber attended the Keep Rockland Beautiful Leadership Breakfast to schedule Spring and Fall Nanuet cleanup events

March 2013 -- Chamber hosted a Business Marketing Panel Discussion and networking meeting with speakers on various marketing topics

December 2012 – March 2013 – the Chamber participated in a food drive in coordination with Worldwide Community First Responder and delivered non-perishable foods to the Nanuet Resource Center

April 2013 -- Chamber participated in the Great American Cleanup by having board members participate in the Nanuet Clean-up Day

April 2013 -- Chamber held a networking event where Ryan Hidalgo, The Shops at Nanuet General Manager, presented an update on the project and answered questions

April 2013 -- Chamber again met with The Town of Clarkstown Planning Board where an investor interested in a possible build downtown was introduced to the Town Planners

May 2013 – Chamber held a networking and update event at Crossroads Restaurant

June 2013 -- Chamber supported the Nanuet Family Fest at the District’s Outdoor Education Center and helped increase the number of vendors who participated

June 2013 – Chamber held another networking meeting and Nanuet Restaurant and elected five new members to the board

 

The Greater Nanuet Chamber of Commerce has established several goals for the coming year. “We have a very committed board and active committees and so our goals are aggressive and will benefit both the businesses and the residents of Nanuet as well as the surrounding community,” stated Hoag.

 

Goals for 2013 – 2014 Include:

·         Hosting Restaurant Week in the Fall so Nanuet restaurants can provide special offerings as well as special pricing -- restaurants who want to participate should send an email toinfo@nanuetChamber.com

·         The Chamber will continue to work closely with the Town of Clarkstown on the rezoning of the downtown area and beautifying and improving Main Street as the Shops at Nanuet get ready to open in October.

·         The Chamber plans to host a Main Street Fair as well as a joint business networking event in the fall.

·         The Chamber will host their second holiday party in December.

·         The long range committee is actually looking into moving the train station to the new Mall so that it is more conducive for bringing people to the area for shopping as well as installing monorail system in Nanuet to facilitate movement around the hamlet.

·         Additional plans include cultural events and environmentally friendly activities.

 

Those who want to join the Chamber can sign up on line at the Chamber’s website. Membership fee for businesses is $125 and only $25 for residents. All are welcome to attend the monthly meetings which are posted to the Chamber’s website. The next meeting of the Chamber will be July 10th.
