Cakes, Cupcakes and Cakepops with Character

Mom and Pops Cakes and Confections, a new start-up Business in Nanuet

Dorothy and Toto would have been proud.

“My daughter wanted a Wizard of Oz cake last year and I couldn’t find anyone to make it,” said Melissa Rosales, top baker for the newly established Mom and Pops Cakes and Confections. “Nina wanted the rainbow and the ruby slippers, so I made the cake and at Nina’s party guests could not get over it. They said 'you should start making cakes.'"

And start making cakes she did.  Not just cakes, but cupcakes and cupcakes on a stick called cakepops. These delightful little bites of wonderfulness on a stick began one day while Rosales was browsing the internet. She stumbled on a baking blog by Bakerella.  Fascinated, she was on the site for hours exploring all of her cake creations, including cakepops!

“First you have to bake the cake and let it cool," Rosales said, describing the cakepop process. “Then you have to crumble the cake and mix it with a little frosting. It then takes on a dough consistency. Roll them into balls, put them in the freezer for about 10 minutes, put in sticks and dip them in chocolate.”

Looking for a Commercial Kitchen

Rosales is now baking out of her home for friends and relatives, but would ultimately like to find a commercial kitchen where she can rent space. Birthday cakes are popular and Rosales plans on many cakepop Easter orders.

Rosales has always been in love with all forms of art, including the confectionary.  She attended Manhattan College graduating with a Bachelor of Arts with a minor in Fine Arts and a Masters of Media Studies with a concentration in graphic design from The New School.

Always volunteering to bring desserts to parties, baking is something she's always enjoyed.  Running a cake shop was a deep-seated dream of hers. A self-proclaimed “Martha wannabe," Rosales thoroughly enjoys entertaining.

Rosales is hoping that if she clicks her heels three times, she will find the commercial kitchen of her dreams and her business will soar.  If you know of a kitchen for Mom and Pops or wish Rosales to make your child a Wizard of Oz cake or any other cupcakes once she finds her kitchen, contact Melissa Rosales through her website.
