Highview Playground Rummage Sale Increases Barometer

Upcoming Fundraisers: Golf Outing and Summer Family Fun Knight

Although the weather forced the to be postponed—new date TBA, the barometer was still raised after a successful 3-day rummage sale. The community sale brought in a profit of $7,615 for the Highview Playground Rebuilding Project.

“Our success was a combination of the kind people of Nanuet and the vicinity dropping off their really good rummage, our efforts in getting the word out to the generous shoppers, and the tireless efforts of the event organizers and volunteers,” said Jean Healy, Treasurer and Finance Chair of the Highview Playground. “Thank you again to all who volunteered. Despite the heat it was a lot of fun and there was a lot of community spirit in the air.”

"Everyone did a great job pulling together to have a successful Rummage Sale,” said Carmine Potenza, a Rummage Sale organizer. “I can't thank all the volunteers enough for all of their hard work and dedication.”

The rummage sale started with a donation drop off day on Friday and then a two day sale. However, the sale started a day early when shoppers unexpectedly stopped by. After that, the shoppers didn’t stop showing up until early evening on Sunday. 100 percent of the proceeds went toward the playground rebuilding efforts.

“It was a pleasure working side by side with Carmine (Potenza), Chickie and Krista (Vasti) this weekend and making all the new friends we made,” said Event Organizer Linda Spadafora. “The volunteers that came out to work were great, the kids were amazing and we met some interesting folks. Again, like 20 years ago,it feels good to come together for a project such as this.”

Don’t let the community spirit die off yet. The new Highview Playground is being built Oct. 5 – 9 this year and the community still needs to help raise the necessary funds to reach the $185,000 goal.

“The tremendous amount of  money, talents, summer time, families and responsibilities—that is what sets us apart from the 'will do it' to the 'doers,' said Sheila Morahan-Gick, PR Chair of the Highview Playground Steering Committee. “Without ALL of us it would not have been pulled off.”
