Rockland County's Chestnut Ridge Transportation Promotes National School Bus Safety Week

Industry-wide Safety Education Effort Kicks Off October 21

Spring Valley, New York…October 15, 2013… Chestnut Ridge Transportation, a leader in student transportation throughout Rockland County, is advocating for safety awareness during National School Bus Safety Week, Oct. 21– 25. The theme of this year's industry-wide public education campaign is "Stand Back from the Yellow and Black!"  It highlights the importance of safety outside of the bus and reminds children to stay ten giant steps away from a school bus at all times so the driver can see them.

Tim Flood, Executive Vice President of The Trans Group, the parent company of Chestnut Ridge Transportation, emphasized the importance of school bus safety education.

"At Chestnut Ridge Transportation,” he explained, “we adhere to the highest possible safety standards, including ongoing driver training and education.  However, most student injuries actually happen outside of the school bus.  For School Bus Safety Week, we’re hoping parents will remind children to always be alert around school buses and follow the driver’s instructions when crossing in front of the bus.”

According to Flood, who also serves as President of the National School Transportation Association (NSTA), students should stand back from the roadway while waiting for buses and never cross the street or move to board the bus until the driver indicates it is safe to do so.
