New Writer’s Night

Local Author and Breast Cancer Survivor to Discuss Book at Palisades Center Barnes & Noble’s “New Writer’s Night”

West Nyack, NY (September 13, 2012) – Breast cancer survivor Susan Reif of Tuxedo Park, NY, the author of For Family & Friends… 39 Things To Make A Cancer Patient Smile, will be one of several local writers showcasing their literature in West Nyack later this month. Reif is taking part in Palisades Barnes & Noble’s “New Writer’s Night” at Palisades Center, being held on Thursday, September 27, 2012 at 7:00 pm.

When people hear a friend or loved one has cancer, their first instinct is to inquire: “What can I do to help?” Reif’s book is designed to help and inspire family members, friends, caregivers, co-workers and acquaintances of cancer patients to reach out and help without having to ask what to do.

“After I was diagnosed with breast cancer, I went through nine months of surgery, recovery and chemotherapy treatments. It was heart-warming to learn that I had a tremendous support network and they came up with an amazing amount of things that made me smile when I was sick and going through my treatment,” Reif said. “With 39 Things To Make A Cancer Patient Smile, I bring out the top suggestions my network had for me that lifted my spirits and made me stronger, so that I could share their generosity with others who were walking a similar path.”

In the book, Susan suggests friends and family members do the little things, the tasks or gestures that are often overlooked, such as offering to drive the patient to an appointment, help out with chores at home, or send a card or a treat, such as customized M&M's.

“We are thrilled to have Susan on hand to talk about her book. Her appearance is particularly timely, as October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month,” said Lisa Wolfe, Community Relations Manager, Palisades Barnes & Noble. “Our ‘New Writer’s Nights’ are a great opportunity for local authors to celebrate their books. The event will also feature books that cover a variety of topics, including psychic intuition, vampires, an Italian-American’s life journey, a parents’ outdoor guide and more,” Wolfe added.
