Great Progress is Underway for The Shops at Nanuet
The Nanuet Chamber of Commerce recently had a meeting about the current construction of The Shops at Nanuet, built on the site of the former Nanuet Mall.
On Thursday April 18, the Greater Nanuet Chamber of Commerce had its Spring Networking Event of at least 40 members and guests at Jimmy’s On Main in Nanuet, NY. The purpose of the meeting was to inform the town of updates about the current project, The Shops at Nanuet, being built at the site of the former Nanuet Mall.
The Greater Nanuet Chamber of Commerce works to support and strengthen the community in all of its aspects through advocacy, leadership, and networking. Some of its Board of Directors include Timothy Chhim (President), Susan Farese (Secretary), Clem Yeboah (Treasurer), Nicholas Miller (Assistant Secretary), and Risa Hoag (Board Member).

Ryan Hidalgo, The Shops at Nanuet General Manager, is an Albertus Magnus High School alum and a graduate of St. Thomas Aquinas College who spoke at the meeting about the progress of The Shops. In addition to being involved in this project, Hidalgo is also a General Manager of both the Galleria at White Plains and the Jefferson Valley Mall in Yorktown Heights, both of which are owned by Simon Properties.
“Me and the Nanuet Mall go way back,” said Hidalgo, who went to the Nanuet Mall when he was growing up.

Hidalgo described The Shops as “a place to decompress” and “a place where you will want to go and spend time,” with areas like a pedestrian plaza for people to relax. The 800,000 square foot center will include a number of new restaurants, a Fairway Market, a 12-screen Regal Cinemas movie complex, and a new fitness center whose name was not yet revealed. There will be 30 to 50 new retail stores on “Fashion Drive,” in addition to a vertical transportation hub.
Macy’s and Sears, two independent businesses that will neighbor The Shops, are in the process of improving their exterior appearance. Macy’s has painted and power washed their walls and remodeled their entrances, while Sears plans to do some work in the near future.
The Shops at Nanuet, according to Hidalgo, are 100 percent on schedule for its grand opening in October. No exact date has been released.
