"It's like a Starbucks for beer. It's a place where people feel they’re getting top of the line product and a comfortable place to sit and enjoy that product and each other’s company," said Mike Fitzgerald, one of the owners. “Our mission is educating and teaching people. There are so many beers around the world but it’s hard to take it all in. Our Beer Geeks and Beer Specialists have the knowledge to really help people understand the beer selection.”

Mike Naclerio and Mark Salerno are the two Beer Geeks at Growler & Gill.

“It’s a library of different beers from around the world and these beer geeks are like librarians to help you find something that meets your taste.”

"Walt Mihatov (another owner) has spent the summer here overseeing contractors to make sure things got done on time so we could open on time," said Fitzgerald. "We've used local contractors and local electricians."

Some unique facts about Growler & Gill:

  • Ceiling beam is reclaimed wood from a 100-year old barn
  • The bar top is reclaimed wood from a rain tree in Bali

"I want to build a community of people who enjoy beer and tie people together locally," said Fitzgerald.

Kickstarter

Over the summer, they reached out to the community for help and support to raise funds for their new venture through Kickstarter. They were able to raise $.

"Kickstarter funded a wonderful communal table that we dedicated to our kickstarter supporters," said Fitzgerald. "Kickstarter raised over $12,000 in a month and the supporters will be here to enjoy it. It's a great table where people can sit and talk about the beer."

Mike is a high school biology teacher at Nanuet High School and a singer in a rock & roll band called Labyrinth at night. Mike wrote and performed the music that accompanies their Kickstarter video. Doreen is a Director of Marketing for an IT company by day and a Labyrinth groupie at night.
