The Rockland Academy of Excellence Charter School Board of Directors

Who are the board members of the Rockland Academy of Excellence Charter School and why should that matter? First let’s define what a board does and how it should represent the community of students it serves. The Rockland Academy of Excellence School board by state law is the legal guardians and is responsible to the students of the Academy. The board’s authority is collective and individual members have no authority. The Chairman of the board is the elected spokesperson and state law defines the legal obligations of the board of directors. The Academy has a defined mission statement “to develop and nurture all students by providing them with the academic, emotional and social skills essential for college and career readiness”. Hence, the board must appraise performance of the academy and the appropriateness of any management corrective action plan, appraise the principal’s performance, appraised and audit operations to ensure compliance with State and Charter school law; monitor and appraise revenue, expenditures and maintain financial health using evidence based management practices and approved by-laws to carry out board’s oversight and board performance. The Rockland Academy of Excellence Board of Directors is a twenty member board with eight advisory board members that understands leadership and management; it is a multidisciplinary team of community professional and credentialed educators, local business leaders, certified public accountants, armed forces veterans and representatives from the community with disabilities. The board monitors school improvement plans, aligns resources and monitors continuous improvement towards high standards for the students. The Board’s responsibly is to embark on environmental scanning to identify the social agents in the eco-system of Rockland County to strengthen the support to our students and families. The Board identifies emerging trends in education and solicits as ambassadors of the Academy; input from a broad base of community stakeholders. The Rockland Academy of Excellence Board of Directors will maintain a forward looking perspective ensuring the capacity and robustness of the school and to promote the Rockland Academy of Excellence to the community of network stakeholders.
