Nanuet Schools Closed Monday

O&R Reports Power Restored to 60% of Customers


Nanuet School District will be closed Monday, Nov. 5 for all students. However, teachers and staff need to come in on Monday to report for a Superintendent’s Conference Day. Schools may be opening on Tuesday - an official announcement will be made. All parent-teacher conferences originally scheduled for Monday have been cancelled.

The Board of Education Meeting on Monday, Nov. 5, 2012 is Cancelled and the Nov 3, 2012 SAT is postponed to Nov 17, 2012

On the website, it reads: 

We understand that this is a very difficult time for everyone and appreciate your patience and understanding.  We are operating day by day in conjunction with Police and Local Authorities. Here is the District's plan for Monday, November 5, 2012:  

1. The Nanuet Schools will be closed to students. 

2. All staff will report for Superintendents Conference Day (no parent-teacher conferences will be held at Barr MS).

3. Our plan is that Tuesday will be a full instructional day for students.   We will notify you in advance.

Outage Information/Dry Ice:

As of early afternoon Sunday, 13,348 Clarkstown customers remained without power.  The initial number of outages in Clarkstown from Hurricane Sandy was approximately 24,000. 

O&R customers can check the "Outage Map" on www.oru.com for Estimated Restore Times (ERT). Those who do not Internet access should call 1-877-434-4100 for their ERT. Clarkstown is encouraging resident to call the NYS Public Service Commission to voice their opinions about O&R at 1-800-342-3377.

Orange and Rockland will be distributing dry ice today at the Old Grand Union Shopping Plaza on Route 9W and Filors Lane in Stony Point from 3 to 5 p.m.


Rockland County and the American Red Cross continue to operate the shelter at the Rockland Community College Field House at 145 College Road in Suffern. Bedding and light snacks are available, all other personal items and medications should be brought with residents using the facility. The facility is pet friendly. The county is providing emergency based transportation for those that need to travel to the Red Cross Emergency Shelter located at RCC. Call 845-364-8747 for information.

The Congers Community Center is open today through to 10 p.m. Monday, Nov. 5. Residents can use the facility to charge electronics or warm up. Those residents planning to stay overnight should bring their own water, food, medications as well as cots or sleeping bags. The Congers Community Center is located at 6 Gilchrest Road in Congers.


No transit fares are being collected on TOR, TZx and TRIPS buses through the end of service today

Public Safety And Outreach:

The Town of Clarkstown and Rockland County remain under State of Emergency declarations. 

Rockland set up a phone bank for public inquiries at 845-364-2020 (Info Rock).

In the aftermath of the storm, residents are reminded to be aware of scams and to check all utility workers' identification. Residents are also advised to use extreme caution when approached by individuals and companies offering to do storm repair work. Repair work should only be permitted by licensed contractors.
