Bob's Discount Furniture Announces 6th Annual Celebrate The Arts Contest

The company will award $45,000 in grant money to schools in the Northeast to help fund programs in art, music, and dance

In these tough economic times the private is stepping up to help out local communities. Many businesses feel a sense of responsibility when it comes to making a difference in the towns they are located in and Bob’s Discount Furniture is no different.

The company recently announced it’s sixth annual contest to help schools fund their arts programs. Through the Celebrate the Arts contest the chain will award $45,000 in grant money to schools throughout the northeast in order to help fund dance, music and the arts programs in those schools.

“The first thing that is cut is the arts,” said Cathy Poulin, a former teacher and the company’s Public Relations and Outreach Coordinator. “This all stems from Bob, he is a philanthropic wonder. It’s a simple contest, you just go on out website and put your school’s name in.”

A $5,000 dollar grant will be awarded in each one of the nine states that the company operates in. New York is of course included. In addition to these grants, Bob’s also has a monthly program that awards $1,000 to four schools and $2,500 to one school. That program rotates between states on a monthly basis.

"It’s so important to find ways to get art and cultural education programming into our schools.  At Bob’s we want to help provide positive and enjoyable educational experiences for youth, and with many school budgets being cut, this year our support is needed more than ever,” said Poulin.  “We’re thrilled to award these grants, giving the winning schools an opportunity to put $5,000 to work in support of programs of their choosing."
