Highview Playground Volunteers Meet, $10,000 Raised at McHugh Fair

There was a general meeting to get everyone up to speed on the Highview Playground's .

"The meeting went great, but we still need more volunteers," said Nancy MacRobbie, chair of the Volunteer Committee. "If you don't know what to do, just give us a call or send us an email. We'll guide you."

"The meeting was good. We're starting to get there," said Volunteer Scott Duplessis. The target goal is $185,000 and the build date is Columbus Day Weekend. Currently, the fundraising is a third of the way there.

"It was great (the meeting) and very informative," said Volunteer Catherine, Scott's wife.

The sub-committees broke up into smaller groups to plan the details of their respective events.

"We saw a few new faces and we'd like to see a whole lot more," said Palma Vasti, who is an organizer for the upcoming .

"This meeting went well, but the big volunteer gathering will bein September at the community meeting," said Don Franchino, chair of the Fundraising Committee. "That's when the community will get together."

Franchino also announced that the ’s eigth annual Family Fair back in May brought in $10,000 for the playground.

This annual fair, which was held in Piermont this year, supports the McHugh Foundation honoring the FDNY firefighter who lost his life on September 11, 2001. Also to receive funds from this year's fair proceeds is the Coughlan Family Benefit to lend assistance to the wife and four children of Noel Coughlan who died in January of this year and the Highview Playground Project.

"We're all community volunteers too," added MacRobbie referring to the current committee members and chairs. "This is our community and we're coming out to pitch in."
