Nanuet Senior Prank: School For Sale

Nanuet High School students and staff arrived on Tuesday morning to see a huge blue banner proclaiming their school was for sale. The senior prank was the idea of Samantha Flynn.

“The ‘For Sale’ sign I thought of,” said Flynn.

Flynn and two other senior girls spent three hours taping the white lettering on the sign that announced the building with more than 150 rooms, one large kitchen, two gyms, six bathrooms and central air conditioning was for sale. Then with the help of several other seniors, they placed the sign on the school roof at about 9 p.m. Monday and returned around 4 a.m. to hang the huge blue tarpaulin near the school auditorium doors and front entrance.

When questioned about the absence of an asking price for the school Flynn, 18, said, “Actually we ran out of tape to finish it.”

Flynn said Principal Dr. Vincent Carella laughed about it and other students thought it was really funny.  She said all the seniors knew about the prank ahead of time.

Other pranks the seniors pulled this week included parking their cars in the main lot diagonally across the teachers’ spaces, using zip ties to connect all the chairs in the cafeteria together and traveling through the hallways on skateboards, scooters and roller blades.

Custodians moved the “For Sale” banner to the fence in front of the school’s tennis courts on Wednesday.
