New Middle School Assistant Principal Starts September 1

At a special early morning meeting on Tuesday, the Nanuet Board of Education approved the appointment of Frank Mazzuca as the interim assistant principal at the A. MacArthur Barr Middle School.

Mazzuca, who is also the district’s director of athletics, officially begins his new role as of September 1. He takes over for Ruben Addarich, who unexpectedly retired on August 3.  Addarich had worked in the district for 12 years. School Superintendent Dr. Mark McNeill announced Addarich’s retirement on Monday.

According to district officials, Mazzuca will continue as director of athletics but will not receive both salaries. He will be paid a stipend for the additional work required.

“Mr. Mazzuca’s day will begin prior to the buses arriving at the Middle School and will usually end at night when his Director of Athletic responsibilities have been completed,” said Dr. McNeill. “The Board is confident that Mr. Mazzuca can handle both positions and will provide additional support in the Athletic Department if it becomes necessary.”

Previously Mazzuca held the position of middle school assistant principal from 1988 to 2001 and later as associate principal.

Mazzuca said he is looking forward to assisting Middle School Principal Roger Guccione.

“I worked for many years as the assistant principal at the middle school and enjoy working with middle school students, parents, teachers and staff,” he said.  “I know this helps the district as they undertake a search process for a new assistant principal.”

The search for a permanent assistant principal will begin in the fall.
