Smith Leaves Miller School for Ossining District Post

An interim principal will be appointed June 3.

Elizabeth Smith, principal of G.W. Miller Elementary School, is leaving the Nanuet district to become a central administrator in the Ossining schools.

Here's the text of Dr. O'Neill's letter to parents:

It is with mixed feelings that I inform you that Dr. Betsy Smith has accepted a position as Director of Teaching and Learning with the Ossining School District.  I am very happy for Dr. Smith and wish her great success in this next chapter of her professional career.  I believe strongly that a significant reason for the District’s overall success and positive community perception is due to Dr. Smith’s many contributions and leadership of Miller for more than a decade.

We are fortunate to have recently appointed Kevin McCahill as an administrator in our District.   Mr. McCahill comes to Nanuet with a proven record of teaching, coaching and leadership.  Mr. McCahill and his wife, an elementary teacher, reside in New City and are the parents of two young boys, ages 4 and 6.  He is currently pursuing a doctoral degree in Educational Leadership, Management and Policy at Seton Hall University.

Mr. Cahill's appointment as Interim Principal at Miller School will be on the June 3rdBorad agenda.  He will be introduced to parents at the June 10th Elementary PTA meeting.  Diana Jabis will continue as the Interim Assistant Principal at the Middle School for the 2014-2015 school year.

We wish Dr. Smith all the best in Ossining.
