Some Back-to-School Excitement at Highview Elementary

There was a little stirring this morning at Highview Elementary on the first day of school, but nothing serious.

Teachers, administrators, parents and kids are clamoring and excited for the first day of school at Highview Elementary. This morning came with an added dose of surprise when the fire alarms went off about an hour before school started.

Anne Chen, elementary assistant principal, said that a lawn mower went through the school to trim the grass in the inner courtyard of the elementary. The fumes from the mower set off the smoke detectors. The Nanuet Fire Department quickly arrived and all the faculty that was already there were evacuated.

When the Fire Department realized that is was just a false alarm and that there was no threat or fire, they went on their way.

Chen smiled and said, "at least we know our smoke detectors work."

The excitement passed, but only for a short while because the school was soon stirring again with the sounds of little feet and laughing kids.
