13U PAL Piermont Yankees Win PBI Summer Travel League Championship

Team defeated Pearl River squad to reach finals.

The Piermont Yankees 13U team is the champion of the 2011 PBI Summer Travel League baseball program.

The Piermont team beat the Paramus Spartans, 3-2, to win the championship.

To reach the finals, Piermont defeated the Pearl River Nationals, 2-1, on the pitching of William Silverstone and strong team defense.  Silverstone also singled with two outs to drive in Justin Breslow and Nick Comparetto, which turned out to be the winning runs. Daulton Newbury also had two hits.

In the finals against the Paramus Spartans, the Piermont Yankees had piermont pitcher William Weber on the mound. He pitched a solid 5 1/3 innings, giving his team a chance to come back in the later innings.  Jason Levy drove in Nick Comparetto with two outs in the first inning.  Daulton Newbury and Justin Breslow each had an RBI.  Base hits by Drew Cipolli and Joey DiBenedetto set up the winning run scored by Kyle Zinser.

Closer Randy Slavik got Piermont out of a second and third jam in the bottom of the 7th inning with no outs to complete the championship win.
