Nanuet Tennis Hosts Nyack in Season's First League Match

Nyack Indians beat Nanuet Golden Knights varsity girls tennis 6-1.

The Nanuet Golden Knights girls tennis team held their first league match yesterday at home against Nyack on Monday, Sept. 20. In a 5-team league, each team plays the four other teams twice, home and away.

Monday was the first league match of the season for both varsity girls tennis squads. The match between Nyack and Nanuet was a best of seven series. There are seven individual matches played, four doubles matches and three singles matches, the first team to four wins.

The match started out tight as Nanuet fought hard in the singles matches.

"The first league match is a big one, and we are happy with the result."

Despite the loss, Nanuet has plenty to look forward to. Nyack may be the toughest opponent they face all season. The season is far from over which leaves plenty of time to bounce back.

As defending champions, Nyack is confident heading into each match but know they must take each match, game and point seriously.

"We lost seven girls from last year's team, but we have plenty of talent ready to step in. Winning the league again is an obvious goal of ours and we definitely believe in ourselves, but each play counts. One play can change the outcome of a match and therefore the season," said Nyack Head Coach Mike Hughes.

Nanuet plays against Albertus Magnus on Wednesday, Sept. 22 and Nyack's next match is at home Tuesday, Sept. 21.
