Nanuet Volleyball Falls to Clarkstown South

The Lady Knights lost their first match of the season in consecutive games to Clarkstown South Vikings

Coach Jennifer Adams and the Nanuet Volleyball Team lost their first official match of the season Thursday afternoon, falling in consecutive games to the Clarkstown South Vikings at home. The individual game scores for the match were 25-12, 25-11 and 25-19.

After his team’s victory, Coach John Pardy of Clarkstown South praised his players.

“We’re coming along," he said. "We’re kind of young this year and they are working very hard.”

In the first game, the Lady Knights struggled to return consistent serving by the Vikings.  Clarkstown South’s Katie Reicher’s steady serving contributed to her team’s victory.  Coach Adams encouraged her team from the sidelines, advising them to “clean it up.”

The Lady Knights fought back in the second and third games.  During the second game, Nanuet freshman Nia Diaz showed tremendous effort at the net as the teams fought exciting rallies.  The third game also showcased exciting rallies but, ultimately, the experience and power of Clarkstown South’s offensive hitters overcame the Nanuet players’ efforts.

The Nanuet parents cheered for their daughters.  John and Victoria Zazyczny, parents of Sarah Zazyczny, one of two freshmen on the varsity team, were there in support of their daughter.  They sat with Manny and Kisha Diaz, parents of Nia Diaz, the other varsity freshman.

“They love it," said Victoria Zazyczny, of the two freshmen. "They went away to camp to improve their game.  They really invested a lot of time.”

Part of Coach Adams’ strategy is to bring freshman and sophomores onto the varsity team early in their high school careers.

“I consider this a program," said Adams. "I try to take a few players from each grade each year.”

This is Coach Adams’ sixth season coaching the Lady Knights.  She is an alumnus of Nanuet High School where she played volleyball.

“I graduated four girls last year," she said. "At this point in the season I am waiting for people to step up and lead.”

The Lady Knights hit the road this Monday, Sept. 12 for their next match when they will face off against East Ramapo at Spring Valley High School.
