Spreading Christmas Cheer With The Nanuet Rotary

Rotarians delivered early Christmas gifts to the residents of several local group homes.

Christmas came early to Convent Road this year as Santa Claus and his helpers made a stop at the Venture group home to pass out gifts. Smiles and laughs abounded as Kris Kringle, AKA Jerry Parsells, and other members of the Nanuet Rotary Club handed out teddy bears to home's residents. Parcells, who could easily  pass for good old St. Nick, beard and all, has been playing Santa for about 30 years.

"It's one of these events that really puts you in the spirit of the season," said Denis O'Leary, a member of the Nanuet Rotary.

Following their initial stop at Venture, the group of Rotarians, moonlighting as Santa's helpers, visited several other group homes on Convent Road, spreading holiday cheer with the help of the Nanuet Fire Department. The annual event is part of the Rotary's commitment to public service in Nanuet.

The money for the event is collected throughout the year and comes from various sources, including the Rotary Club's fundraising initiatives as well partnerships within the community.

"We have our regular Santa, Jerry Parcells. It's one of the things we do each Christmas," said Jim Damiani, the Rotary Club's president. "For us this is something that really exemplifies the Christmas spirit."
